In the Holy Scriptures  the church, being the spiritual body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27),  is likened to a physical body (Ephesians 4:16)  with all its diversity and unity, in which the participants serve God and each other with the spiritual gifts given by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12: 7, 11).  God's Word has a lot to say to both the local church as a whole (Revelation 2-3) and  down  each person as well  to a distinguishable group of people  together constituting the body of Christ. Understanding your biblical role in life and in church service is the foundation of the proper  spiritual growth (Ephesians 4:23) and fruitful service to God (Romans 12: 1).
