Gospel
This word is usually associated with the name of each of the the first four books of the New Testament (ie, the Gospel of Matthew, the Gospel of Mark, the Gospel of Luke and the Gospel of John). However, its literal meaning is good news, it goes much further and deals with the most important issue in the life of every person, that is, his salvation. Salvation, that is salvation from eternal punishment for the sins of having a sinful nature every man commits (see 1 John 1: 9).
From the time Adam and Eve sinned for the first time, every human being is born with a sinful nature and is distant from God. Instead of worshiping and serving true God, man plunges into darkness, honors creation, and experiences the painful consequences of turning away from the truth (Romans 1: 18-32), drawing upon himself the wrath of God's coming judgment. Dead in his sins and failures (Ephesians 2: 1), he does not want and is unable to reconcile himself with God and his situation is tragic ...
God is holy and just, so he "will surely prevent the guilty from going unpunished" (Nahum 1: 3). Yet God is also love, and "so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). Death on the cross of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, God-man who received the punishment for the sins of all who believe in Him and who repentantly come to Him for forgiveness, creates the possibility of reconciliation of sinful man with Holy God. So this is the gospel, or the good news: a sinner who, feeling repentant because of his sin against God, comes by faith to Christ, whom he cannot see and asks for forgiveness, he obtains it, and the Bible calls it a new birth (John 3: 3) or salvation.
In the Letter to the Romans 10: 9 The apostle Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, writes: "For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved". The Scriptures say salvation is not a reward for good works, but an act God's grace and mercy towards the repentant sinner (Ephesians 2: 8 and 9; Letter to Titus 3: 5). It also says that the aftermath of such "confession", or more precisely as a result of the saving action of the Holy Spirit, man becomes a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17) who can be sure of his salvation (1 John 5:13) and his new life in Christ and the works that are the result of his transformation, they are too proof that his repentance was real and his faith was real.
Can you today say about yourself that you "confessed with your mouth that Jesus was Lord" and that you "believed in your heart that God raised him from the dead"? Whether you have been born again are you a new creation and turned from sin to serve Christ? Do not wait any longer: "God, although he had let go of the times of ignorance, now calls upon all men everywhere to repent" (Acts 17:30). "Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near! (Book of Isaiah 55: 6).
